Why I Go to We Are Africa – And Why You Should Book with Anywhere in Africa Safaris
Published: 2 June 2025
In a world where travel can be booked at the click of a button, I often get asked: “Why should we book with a travel specialist like you?” The answer is simple - relationships and knowledge. At Anywhere in Africa Safaris, it’s not just about securing a room or a rate. It’s about crafting journeys that are safe, seamless, and soaked in soul - with people, places, and partners I know and trust. That’s why I attend We Are Africa every year - and have done so since 2019.
This year marked the 10th edition of We Are Africa, hosted at the impressive DHL Stadium in Cape Town from 5–8 May. The week kicked off in a way that set the tone beautifully…

Setting the Scene: Registration at Zeitz MOCAA
My We Are Africa experience began with registration at the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA), housed in a transformed historic grain silo at the V&A Waterfront. This extraordinary building is more than just a museum - it’s a celebration of African creativity, heritage, and innovation.
I always recommend a visit to Zeitz MOCAA to my guests. Not only is it home to one of the largest collections of contemporary African art in the world, but its architecture alone is worth the trip - a powerful metaphor for preservation and transformation, two themes that echo throughout African travel today.

50 Meetings in 3 Days: Why I Keep Coming Back
Over the next three days at the DHL Stadium, I had 50 scheduled meetings - 80% with brand-new properties or experiences new to AIA, and the rest with familiar, trusted partners. These ranged from tented camps and boutique hotels to mobile safaris, ground handlers, and new adventure concepts. The atmosphere was electric - full of energy, optimism, and creativity.
It’s these face-to-face meetings that form the backbone of how we work at Anywhere in Africa Safaris. I go to WAA not for the goodie bags or the socializing - I go to build the connections that ensure my clients get more than what’s on the brochure.

What’s New and Noteworthy
Here are a few highlights I’m incredibly excited about:
Silverback Lodge, Uganda – A beautiful new addition for gorilla trekking.
Lolelunga Private Reserve, Zambia – Remote and wildly luxurious.
Amber River Camp & Little Maru, Botswana – Gorgeous new Okavango camps.
Beagle Expeditions – A raw and exclusive mobile safari experience in Botswana.
Enkusero Mara, Kenya – Authentic Masai Mara safari with soul.
The Memory Road, Morocco – Slow travel across Morocco’s historic trade routes.
Uthando SA, Cape Town – Connecting travelers with impactful local community projects. I believe every visitor to Cape Town should join a tour and support this vital work.
Ele Collection, Zimbabwe – Removing plastic waste from Victoria Falls and repurposing it into sustainable building materials. Anywhere in Africa donates $20 per traveler to support this incredible initiative.
While I didn’t secure any new Ethiopian product this year, I’ve definitely got my eye on the country — and the potential is immense.

This Is Why I Travel
We Are Africa is more than a trade show - it’s a tribe of passionate professionals who believe in Africa’s future. It reinvigorates me every year. The people I met, the innovation I saw, the destinations I discovered - all of it reminded me why I chose this path.
So yes, you could book your own trip online. But if you want your journey to be transformative, impactful, and deeply personal, trust a travel partner who knows Africa - and the people who make it magical.
Let’s create something unforgettable together. Because at Anywhere in Africa Safaris, we don’t just send you on vacation - we send you on an African journey that matters.
