When it comes to clothing, think light, comfortable and practical. Neutral-coloured clothing is ideal for game drives, along with comfortable walking shoes, swimwear, a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and a light jacket or fleece for the cool early mornings and evenings.

Most safari lodges have a relaxed smart casual dress code for dinner, so there's no need to pack formal attire. The exception would be if your itinerary includes a luxury rail journey, such as Rovos Rail, where dressing up for dinner forms part of the experience.
